Bamboo fabric are completely biodegradable.
Bamboo textiles are made from of Moso bamboo, not the type of bamboo that
giant pandas eat.
Bamboo generates more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees - if we planted
more bamboo more photosynthesis would help to cut the globally rising levels
of carbon dioxide.
Bamboo trees can help us replenish the eco system!
Natural Bamboo has become one of the world’s most prolific and fastest-growing plants, and is able to reach maturity in about four years, compared to the typical 25 to 70 years for commercial tree species in the U.S.
Bamboo is nature’s most sustainable resource. It is grown without pesticides or chemicals, is 100% biodegradable, and is naturally regenerative. Bamboo is actually a tropical grass with an extensive root system that sends out an average of four to six new shoots per year, naturally replenishing itself and growing to heights of 60 feet or more. Some bamboo species grow up to 4 feet per day and can be harvested every 3 to 4 years.
Bamboo trees are planted and grown
on family-owned farms that have been in agricultural use for generations.
None of the fiber comes from tropical forests Bamboo is the fastest growing
woody plant in the world growing one third faster than the fastest tree.
It grows up to a metre in 24 hours - you can almost watch it grow! The plant
reaches its maximum height in 3 months and reaches maturity in around 3 years.
Most softwood trees take 10-20 years to reach maturity. After each harvest,
bamboo re-grows almost immediately so is a completely sustainable resource.
Bamboo trees grows and thrives without fertilizers,
pesticides or any chemical assistance. This is partly down to a substance
it contains called ‘bamboo-kun'
which is antimicrobial and antifungal. Compare this property to cotton which
uses approximately 25% of the world's fertilizers and insecticides and more
than 10% of the pesticides for only 10% of the agricultural land mass.
Bamboo fabric is completely biodegradable and has been praised in the textile
world as a fabric that will overtake cotton in just a short while.
Bamboo fabric is made out of Moso bamboo - this is NOT the type of bamboo
